Antwerp locals proudly refer to their city as a world city with the atmosphere of a village: here you can find everything, always within walking or at least biking distance. Whether you come to Antwerp for a hefty dose of culture, to soak up the history, to shop, or to indulge in culinary delights, you can do it in every neighbourhood and throughout the entire city. Antwerp is compact, yet it has a lot to offer.
City park
Located in the city centre, not far from the bustling shopping street Meir, you will find the City Park. A green oasis in the heart of a vibrant city. Take a leisurely stroll, enjoy the tranquillity by the pond, or admire the newly renovated bridge.
Antwerp Zoo
The Antwerp Zoo is one of the oldest and most famous zoos in Europe. Set aside half a day for a visit, as there is plenty to see and experience. Penguins in Antarctica, elephants and giraffes in a unique Egyptian temple and hippos in the pink villa: here you can admire more than 950 species and over 5,000 animals.
The Koninck Brewery
For years, the beers of De Koninck, including the famous “Bolleke,” have been brewed on the Mechelsesteenweg. In 2015, the City Brewery De Koninck opened an experience center, thereby opening its doors to the general public. You will find a culinary mini-town on the site of De Koninck. Where you can taste chocolate, cheese, cold cuts and bread, and even dine at a restaurant.
Central Station
Antwerp Central Station, also known by locals as the “Middenstatie” or Railway Cathedral, was inaugurated in 1905. The building consists of a steel platform canopy and a stone station building in an eclectic style. Antwerp Central Station has been repeatedly voted one of the most beautiful train stations in the world.
